An update on the CAM Raleigh CAMERA Exhibition

Message from Paul Baker, Executive Director of CAM RAleigh
Hard to believe that nearly 9 months have passed since the juried show for the CAMERA Exhibition was held at the Osterneck Auditorium here in Lumberton! From 101 entries 31 pieces were selected, packed and later trucked to Raleigh. We will hear soon when the remaining artworks will be brought back to the Guild House, the next step on their way home.

As CAMERA nears the end, and new opportunities are appearing, it seems appropriate to look back at the message Dr. Paul Baker sent us then. He gave a wonderful view into just how great an opportunity this was and is for the artists of Robeson County!
Dear Members of the Robeson Art Guild,

As you know Robeson County artists have been selected to a partnership with the state's Contemporary Museum of Art in Raleigh. We thought you might like to know what this partnership means. We have had 18 artists from across our county juried into the exhibition; and those artists have 31 works of excellence being viewed through August. Our exhibiting artists go to CAM and speak to visitors throughout the four months of the exhibition. They talk about their art and the good facts of our county. The partnership has been good for our artists and good for our county. I am writing to ask you to make a visit to CAM that will make you very proud and very knowledgeable. Already 23 other counties have asked to be honored with this partnership. An attachment to this letter shows hours for visiting CAM. There is no fee! 1st Fridays are great!

During the June 1st Friday, 576 people attended the museum including U.S. Congresswoman Deborah Ross who is a national advocate for the arts. As an exhibiting artist, it increases your opportunity to advance if you can talk about your work and its meaning. Currently, there are three Robeson County artists who are currently showing at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition Museum in Brooklyn, NY and another who will be showing at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem later this year.
