En Plein Air Workshop with Ellen Burke Now May 19-20!
Unfortunately, the weather has taken a turn for the worst, and painting outside in a possible pouring thunderstorm does NOT seem a good idea! Therefore, we are reluctantly postponing the workshop to May 19 and 20.

Ellen Burke will now lead the two-day “En plein air” workshop Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 May 19-20.
Devote time to pursuing your art, learning new skills, and expanding your personal painting experience. Each day will cover 5-hours to work in and around Lumberton, North Carolina, plus a one-hour break to relax and enjoy lunch with Ellen and your fellow students. Class size is limited to 20 to enable Ellen to provide one-on-one attention to each artist as they work. The cost for the workshop is $30, with a catered lunch provided each day.

Your en plein air work can be watercolor sketches and studies providing inspiration and foundation for a more fully developed work later. Sometimes the spontaneous sketch is simplified, looser, vibrant, and absolutely fabulous.
The workshop will begin with an overview of composition, how to loosen up, gain a deeper insight into your subject, and remove or rearrange elements for your sketches and studies. Basic drawing and painting supplies will be provided, including watercolor palettes, watercolor paints, and paper. Participants are free to work with their own personal supplies if they wish, in the medium of their choice. This is a great opportunity to explore using your own materials outside.
Each participant will receive a welcome letter from Ellen, contact information, and a list of suggested items to bring with you to the class.
A limited number of scholarships are available for the workshop.

OK, so what’s up with the En Plein Air Exhibition, you ask?

You may have been expecting the En Plein Air Exhibition in May. Well, we were too! Unfortunately, we have had to make a change. The weather took a turn for the worst, necessitating rescheduling of the En Plein Air Workshop from April to May – painting outside in a possible pouring thunderstorm did NOT seem a good idea!
That kicked off the domino effect, and the En Plein Air exhibition also had to be moved – you will find that the revised prospectus now shows the date of that exhibit as July 13 – September 7, 2023. Artists, the revised submission date for your work for En Plein Air is July 11th. The Opening Reception for En Plein Air is July 13th.
