In addition to the normal artist awards and the opportunity for everyone to vote for their personal favorites, this exhibition features our second annual Remembrance Poppy Award! The Remembrance Poppy is the emblem of National Poppy Day, recognized on the Friday prior to Memorial Day in honor of all the men and women who served and died for their country in all wars.
This year the special Remembrance Poppy Award will be presented by Allyson Rosser, North Carolina Chapter Leader and National Recruiter for Native American Women Warriors. Allyson is a proud member of the Pee Dee Tribe of South Carolina, a U.S. Army Airborne veteran, and a passionate advocate for Native communities, women veterans, and suicide awareness and prevention. She is the first and only woman in her family to serve in the military.
The theme for Artist's Choice 2026 is creativity, and how each individual artist chooses to express and share their work with us. Works eligible for the Remembrance Poppy Award must feature the red poppy, the internationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn around the world since World War I to honor those who served and died for their country.

- First Place: $200

Judge for Artist's Choice 2026 and the Remembrance Poppy Award
The judge for both the Artist's Choice 2026 exhibition and the Remembrance Poppy Award is Nanette Zeller, well known textile artist and instructor.

We were excited that Nanette has agreed to lead two classes at the Art Guild, a Shibori indigo-dyed scarf class on May 30 and a wool felted wallet class on June 13.
Apparently, many of you are also excited about the new classes! Both already have registrations - it looks like they may fill up faster than expected! If you haven't reserved your spot yet, here are links to the registration pages:

Mark your calendar for our first Community Exhibit
As we reported last month, Mark Andersen has been working on a new program of music to accompany a special event at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday on May 16th. A selection of entries from the Spring Festival will be exhibited at the church with some sculptures and paintings from his personal collection. Mark your calendars! You won't want to miss this one-day opportunity!
Trinity Church is located at 1202 N. Chestnut Street, Lumberton, NC 28358. The event is Saturday, May 16, from 1:00-4:00 pm.

Watch this space for other opportunities to see some of the rich local arts that bloom around Robeson County. We love Lumberton and the warm reception we have here, the only thing better is to share what comes into the Guild - often from the local communities around the County in which the artists themselves live. Let us know if you have some suggestions for venues in your local communities that may be interested in hosting a short visit. Thanks in advance!
