Another New Class - Memory-Making with Art: Creating Family Heirlooms

Memory-making with Art - Creating Family Heirlooms, by Jill Vickers
Join Jill Vickers and explore new (and old!) ways to turn your cherished memories into art pieces that can be passed down through generations!
Click the link below for more information and to register for this 2-session class.

Memory-Making with Art
Mar 4th & 8th, 2025
You will work with hand-drawn illustrations, watercolor, and collage, completing a family-themed art piece to take home, such as a decorative memory frame or family tree illustration. The first class meets Tuesday, March 4th at 4:00 pm and the second session meets on Saturday, March 8th at 2:00 pm. Both sessions will be at the Robeson Art Guild House, 109 W 9th Street, Lumberton, NC 28358.

In class you will explore using a wide range of media, from photographs to scrapbook paper, old book pages, and old sewing pattern papers. Look through your personal treasures and bring photocopies of 3 special photos, photos of ancestors, or a significant document you would like to use in your art piece. Please be sure to only bring photocopies, rather than the originals.

Instructor - Jill Vickers

We are very lucky to have her as a new instructor! Jill holds a Master of Arts degree in Art Education and blends her expertise in art and design with a deep understanding of art's transformative power. Her work reflects her passion for storytelling, nostalgia, and emotional resonance - you will see that passion shared through the classes she has designed for the Art Guild!

You may also want to catch her radio show "Artful Alchemy" on WDRB. Interesting conversations about the Arts and with creative artists.

Monthly Volunteer Lunch and Share

Thursday, February 27th, we talked about. . .

  • Transportation options for members
  • The schedule change for the Painting Group
  • Introduced new member Dave Edmunds - Welcome Dave!
  • New Exhibition Committee/Team - looking for team members! Talk to Carole if you want to help.
  • Empty Bowls Available NOW from the Lumberton Christian Care Center
  • Interest in a traveling show, with small exhibitions around Robeson County
  • Poppy Day, Remembrance Day May 23rd - maybe a special award during the Artist Choice Exhibition for poppy themed art piece?? What do you think?
  • Rhumba on the Lumber coming up March 7-8, centered downtown, so the Guild isn't doing anything specifically, but would like to support members who are!
  • Let's have another BBQ this Spring!
  • and the new class schedule that is booked through now thru early May!
Volunteers need a place and time to share ideas and get answers to questions, so we set aside the last Thursday of each month to meet over lunch - Thursday, January 30 was the first one of 2025! It's Bring-our-Own-Lunch, but we do have coffee, tea, water, and hot chocolate available, and sometimes dessert appears. Join us when you can, and if you can't, email carole.blaney@robesonartguild.org with your questions and suggestions and we'll share them with the other volunteers and get you answers. That's also a good way to let us know if you want to help on any specific project.

Thanks for your interest and help! Let us know what you would like to do! See you soon.

Informal Wednesday Painting Group is Now the Monday Group! New Schedule: Mondays from 12:30 to 2:00 pm!

We had a great afternoon this past Wednesday, with 6 people joining in - lots of shared ideas and talking about watercolor techniques, paper, and what we would like to explore in the future. We also talked about timing - and the group decided that Wednesday is maybe not the best option.

Hence the new schedule! The group will meet weekly on Monday afternoons at 12:30 pm beginning March 3rd. Hope to see you there soon!

And by the way, if some of you can't make it on Monday, let us know. There's nothing that says we can't have several groups for interested members to get together! Let's talk!

Art Supplies Swap/Share Box

Several members have brought in art supplies, books, magazines, whatever they don't need anymore, to share with other members who may want to try something new. It's a good way to explore. There is no charge, the only request is that if you take something, please bring something in for others - and if you don't need or want what you take, well, just bring it back! The box is in the classroom.
