On Day 1 of the class, Nila Chamberlain began with an introductory demonstration of basic materials and techniques, including review of types of paper used in watercolor, discussion of how transparent watercolor is and how it is applied, and brush technique for watercolor. Each student received a basic watercolor kit and practiced brush technique for transparent watercolor washes. Students taped down watercolor paper on two boards, sketched in pencil on the prepared boards, and did two separate gradient washes in the second hour. Nila and the student discuss methods to achieve perspective.

The class will begin with introductory demonstration of basic materials and demonstration of basic techniques by the instructor: review of types of paper used in watercolor; discussion of how transparent watercolor is and how it is applied; and a demo of brush technique for watercolor.
Students will receive basic watercolor kits and practice brush technique for transparent watercolor washes. Students will tape down watercolor paper on two boards in preparation of two separate washes to be used in the second hour. Students will do a sketch in pencil on prepared boards. Discuss methods to achieve perspective. Students will do a gradient wash on boards one and two.
