Please dress appropriately. Remember: Glasswork is full of sharp edges!
You may be able to complete the piece and take it home that day. If a second day is needed to ensure your piece is dry and perfect, we have you covered!
- Day 1, select your materials and colors, cut and assemble the pieces, and create your sun-catcher under Donna’s expert guidance. Sometimes the sun-catchers need to dry overnight before they are waxed on the second day.
- Day 2 as needed to finish up, apply patina/polish your sun-catcher.
Copper foil is a great introduction to the art of stained-glass! This is a beginner’s class where you will learn the basics of copper foil technique and create a stained-glass art piece you made yourself! The class includes basic instruction on how to design and structure your piece, use a template, cut the glass, use a diamond grinder, apply and burnish copper foil, assemble and solder the pieces together, add a hook to properly hang your completed piece, and finish it with the patina and shine you select. Donna will help you choose from 4 existing templates. You will select from the colored glass available at the Guild to make you art piece – picking your colors is fun!
Please note that although the class is open to everyone, working with glass requires dexterity and a certain amount of strength and control, and standing is required at times. The class may not be suitable for all participants. Proper safety precautions will be taught at each step and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided along with all materials. No previous stained-glass experience is necessary. The class is limited to a maximum of 3 participants.
