Juror James Bass, Ed.D, visited the Robeson Guild House and reviewed the entries for the Artist’s Choice Exhibition on Wednesday, May 22. The theme for Artist’s Choice is creativity, and how each individual artist chooses to express and share their work with us. Several artists mentioned that they were working on something special – we could hardly wait to see what they created.
Bass, Executive Director of the Givens Performing Arts Center at UNC-Pembroke, writes a monthly column for The Robesonian. His photography appears in books and magazines, on album covers, and on social media pages of artists Waylon Jennings and The Doobie Brothers. Awards he has received include the 2018 N.C. Arts Council Emerging Artist, the 2020 Gold Nyx Award, and the Telly Award in 2021 for producing a concert video for pianist Mark Andersen. For the judging, each piece of artwork was judged blind, each piece identified only by number. Dr. Bass awarded First, Second, and Third placements and two Honorable Mentions.
The Artist’s Choice Exhibition Opening Reception was Thursday, May 23rd, featuring music by Susie Swenson on the piano, and light refreshments sponsored by Marilyn and Larry Pope.
