The Artist’s Choice and Remembrance Poppy Award 2025 opening reception is set for Thursday, May 22 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Guild House! We have a wonderful evening planned – the exhibition itself is exceptional and the response to the new Remembrance Poppy Award surprised us all! Judge Paul Baker selected the winners last week, from a very strong field of artwork, both 2-D and 3-D treasures. The winners know who they are, but the rest of you will have to wait a few more days!
We are excited to announce that Raymond Hunt, American Legion District Commander for Robeson and Scott Counties, will present the awards personally! We are so pleased to be part of local efforts recognizing the significant sacrifices made by our veterans over the years, in many different theatres. Many of us have memories of those who have given their lives in service of our country – let us never forget their sacrifice.
The presentation for this. our Very First of a new annual Memorial Day celebration, the Remembrance Day Poppy Award and other exhibition awards will take place at about 7:00 pm at the Guild House, 109 W. 9th Street, Lumberton. While you are here, be sure to vote for your favorite entries. The People’s Choice Award will be announced on July 10th, when the Artist’s Choice Exhibition closes.
Betty Fisher will provide the music for the evening, and we will have light refreshments – and will be happy to show the progress on the new Pottery Studio!
By the way, back by popular demand is the online auction! The auction opens Thursday evening and all of the for-sale Artist’s Choice entries – including the Remembrance Poppy artworks! – will be available online for secure bids! We will be happy to answer any questions you may have!
Once again, we expect to see a steady stream of people over the evening as local supporters of the arts move between 2 wonderful openings on the same night. Whether you visit before our awards ceremony or after, don’t miss the Robeson County Arts Council Gallery opening of “From the Garden, a Floral Exhibition” that will run through June 23.
