Sandy, a former Lumbertonian, is a multimedia artist who is retired from her “day Job” at UNCP, but still producing art and staying in touch with the art scene in as many ways as possible. Sandy attended Morehead State University in Kentucky where she received BA and MA degrees in Art and English. She taught both subjects in high school and college for many years. For the last five years, she has participated in the two week Katherine Chang Liu Master Class in Oxnard, California. Her work is in many collections in Kentucky, Ohio, and North Carolina.
Sandy participates in local, state, and national art exhibitions, including the recent NC Artists Exhibition in Raleigh, sponsored by the Raleigh Fine Arts Society. She is a signature member of the National Collage Society, and ISEA (International Society of Experimental Artists.
Sandy’s work has evolved over the years from realistic watercolors to semi-abstract multimedia collage. She uses a variety of materials to create these works in series. Some of the recent titles of the series are “Connections,” “Family Matters,” and “Journey.” Most of this work has an autobiographical base and in some she utilizes family photos which have been transferred onto tissue paper and integrated into the painting/collage. Her work can be seen on her Facebook page, Sandy Stratil Art, and on Instagram @Sandy Stratil Art.
