Summer has barely started and we are all experiencing the joys – and challenges – of the summer weather. This year, of course, is special for many more reasons than normal, not the least of which is the 250th anniversary of the United States on July 4th. Sometimes, though, it’s great to just take a deep breath, settle into the air conditioning, and spend a little time on ourselves. And, Boy, can the Art Guild help with that this summer!
Jill Vickers, the great teacher who led the A Guided Journey in Mindful Art class in April, has agreed to lead FIVE new classes this summer. Some students prefer evening classes; other students prefer weekend classes. So… drumroll, please… we are offering each of the new classes on 2 different dates. Select the one that works best for you, EITHER the Tuesday evening class from 6:00 to 8:00 pm OR the Saturday afternoon class from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Each class is $45 per student for a single 2-hour session. The fee includes all materials, although feel free to bring your own if you like. All classes meet here at the Robeson Art Guild House, 109 West 9th Street in Lumberton.

Mindful Drawing
Nature offers a quiet invitation to slow down and observe the small details we often overlook. In this calming workshop, you will sketch simple natural elements—such as leaves, flowers, feathers, or shells—while practicing mindful observation. Slow down and reconnect with nature through art.
No drawing experience is required.

Watercolor Flow
Watercolor has a natural rhythm and calming effect that encourages relaxation and creative freedom. Join us and explore soft color blending, organic shapes, and the flowing movement of watercolor paint.
Enjoy the process of watching colors mix and spread across the page. You will learn about mixing colors, how to create colors to enhance any picture, and how to use the natural flow of watercolors.
No art experience is required.

Magic of Printmaking Without a Press
In this guided Creative Experiences workshop, participants will explore the art of Gelli plate printing using nature, textures, and found materials to create colorful layered prints. Through a series of playful exercises, participants will:
- learn to create unique monoprints using a printing plate
- experiment with leaves, flowers, fabric, and textured materials
- build layers of color and pattern
- create printed papers for future artwork and journals

Exploring Colored Pencil Drawing & Shading
Colored pencils are a versatile and approachable art medium that allows artists to create rich color, beautiful details, and realistic shading. In this guided workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of colored pencil drawing, including:
- sketching and composition
- selecting colors for depth and realism
- blending multiple colors
- creating highlights and shadows
- building layers to create dimension and texture
Through simple exercises and a guided project, you will discover how a single color can contain many shades and how thoughtful layering creates vibrant, lifelike artwork.
Perfect for beginners as well as artists looking to strengthen their colored pencil techniques. All materials are provided.

ATC – Artist Trading Cards Inspired by Summertime
Big creativity can happen in a very small space. In this playful workshop, you will create a collection of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)—miniature works of art measuring just 2.5″ x 3.5″. Using watercolor, colored pencils, and ink pens, students will explore ways to tell visual stories inspired by the sights, memories, and simple pleasures of summer.
You will create between four and six cards featuring tiny scenes, seasonal imagery, and personal interpretations of summer. Subjects may include gardens, beaches, butterflies, lemonade stands, flowers, birds, summer adventures, or treasured seasonal memories.
Working small encourages creative freedom, experimentation, and confidence while making art feel approachable and fun. All materials included.
